Class on July 29

Today for the class on July 29th, we had our real presentation. Me and Iman practiced a few times before today's presentation to make sure that everything will run as smoothly as it should. The whole presentation took us about 30 minutes and I would say it went quite smoothly. After the presentation the teacher gave us some inputs regarding our presentation skills and our slideshows. For me, it seems that I use a lot of filler words like “um” when I have to think while I present, so the teacher gave me some pointers regarding what I can do with that. One of it is that he introduced me to this club where they help people be better at public speeches. While that doesn't include presentations and making slide shows, it still seems like something that would really help me cut out filler words whenever I speak in public so I will check it out. On top of that, the teacher also gave us some pointers regarding the things that we need to fix with the slideshows such as fonts and to ...

Class for July 22nd

Today is the day where we have our mock presentation, I am very nervous. Me and Man has practiced together in our free time, and I also tried to do it a few times whenever I have some free time as well. I hope everything goes well. The mock presentation was done, and it seems like we did quite well. There were a few inputs from the teacher regarding the slides that are easy to fix, as well as the fact that my camera was only showing my face and it is preferable for me to show from chest up so that the audience could see my body language better. There were also some inputs regarding how I forgot to mention where the Q&A part will commence, is it in the middle of the presentation or at the end. Those are the things that I will have to fix before our real presentation next week. Overall, I'm glad with how the mock presentation went today. I hope we could do well next week as well.

Class on July 15th

For the class on July 15th, it was more on presentation. The teacher looked at our slides, infographics and brochures as well as websites and gave us his inputs. The inputs are mainly that the fonts that were used are too bold and with all capital letters, it is hard for dyslexic people to read. Other than that, as far as the brochures, infographics, magazines and website goes, everything seems good. There are some more improvements needed to be made on our slides, but it's nothing too major. It was also mentioned that we will have a practice presentation next week, I'm a little nervous about it but I will do my best to practice a lot before the presentation so that I don't forget what to say and stutter between lines. I hope the mock presentation goes well.

Class on July 8th

For the class on July 7th, the teacher taught us more about how to make a good presentation.  From how to. One of them is to concentrate on our core message, we should be able to communicate our key message very briefly in a way that is easy to understand. Another one is to start strong because the beginning of a presentation is crucial as we need to grab our audiences' attention and hold it. Next is to use our voice effectively and our body language as well. That means that as well as our tone of voice, our body language is crucial to getting our message across. We have to make sure that we are giving the right messages, body language to avoid includes crossed arms, and to make sure our gestures are open and confident. I have taken a few presentation classes before this one, but in Business English Class I learnt so many things that I never did before. From getting to know copyrighted pictures and the type of usage the licenses means, and to learning more about presentations a...

Class on July 1st

For class on July 1st, the teacher talked about marketing tactics. One of it is called S.W.O.T which is short for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunity and Threats. This is one of the marketing tactics that was used from a long time ago and is still used today. Another one is called the 4Ps of marketing, which is Product, Price, Place and Promotion. And then as time went on, people added 3 more Ps into the strategy, turning it into Product, Price, Place, Promotion, Process, Physical Environment and People. And a more recent marketing tactic is called AIDA, AISDALSLove which is short for Awareness, Interest, Desire, Action, Like, Share and Love. In the time of social media, this is apparently one of the newer marketing tactics that a lot of brands use to market and promote their products. We are also taught today on how to make blog on google. It is a fairly easy and straight forward method. I have never known that we could make a website on google so easily and have it look so modern ...

Class on June 24

For the class on June 24, the teacher capitalized on the importance on making a good slide show. One way of making a good presentation that the teacher recommended was to use the PSE slides. PSE slide is a slide that is more visual. With maximum of 5 words per slideshow and it taking only 5 secs for the viewer to understand a slide, it enables the viewers to be able to focus more on the presenter and what was being presented at the time. On top of that, the teacher also introduced various ways of marketing. A few of the examples are by infographics, brochure, magazine articles and websites. We were also taught on ways to make a logo for our website by using Canva. Canva is a graphic design platform that allows users to create social media graphics, presentations, posters and other visual content. It's very simple to use and also, importantly, free. I have used Canva a few times before and have found it very easy to use––especially for someone who has no prior experience with phot...

Class on June 16th

For the class on June 16th, the teacher introduced us on websites to get copyright free pictures such as Pixabay and Flickr. As well as also explaining to us what CC licenses are. There are 6 difference license types: CC BY, CC BY-SA, CC BY-NC, CC BY-NC-SA, CC BY-ND, CC BY-NC-ND.   The six licenses and the public domain dedication tool give creators a range of options. From there, we decide which license is appropriate as we think about why we want to share our work, and how we hope others will use that work.  On top of that, he taught us how to make a good presentation by showing us slideshows and how to adjust fonts to the pictures that we have on our slides. I have learned that making the slides simple by limiting it to bullet points instead of having a lot of texts on the slideshows, using high quality images, having a visual theme instead of using the Powerpoint templates, and using fonts as well as choosing colors well will aid towards good powerpoint slides.
