Class on May 27th

For the class on May 27, the teacher mentioned the importance of having a professional profile picture on your social medias, for example Youtube, Gmail account, Twitter, etc. As a professional style photo could make someone look more professional in a communicative context. Another thing the teacher mentioned in class on May 27th, is the importance and ways to write a good paragraph. Usually in a paragraph it starts with a topic sentence that tells the readers what the paragraph will be about, followed with supporting sentences to prove the claim from the topic sentence is true. The paragraph should end with concluding sentence to end the paragraph nicely and strongly. Additionally, we were also taught to write a bio statement. A bio statement is a lot like writing a well-formed paragraph. In the sense that it should include a topic sentence, evidence, elaboration and a conclusion. In a bio statement, the topic sentence introduces me and the body sentences should provide informat...

Class on May 20th

For the class for May 20th, we learned about a website called Feedly. Feedly is a robust feed reader that aggregates information from around the web into one convenient place. Users can use it to view updates on any topic that they're interested in, whether they come from the news, blogs, social media posts, RSS feeds, or other sources. In Feedly, we were taught to make folders for the class' members blogs, and to also add a few websites of the things we enjoy. I added a folder of pop music, because I enjoy listening to pop music and following the pop culture. Personally, Feedly reminds me a lot about a website called stumbledupon that has been shutdown recently. It's minimalistic, which is what a lot of websites strive to do these days, but personally, when I went on that website it feels as if Feedly tries too hard and relies too heavily on its minimalist approach which could be a little overwhelming to use at at times. As far as how much use I would get out of thi...

Class on May 13th

For the class on May 13th, the teacher introduced a lot of new writing tools that I didn't know about. There were lextutor.ca, analyzemywriting, paperrater and Rewordify. Lextutor is a website that helps count the total words we have written. Not only that, it also goes into detail and show the users the percentage of the K1000 words that's in their writing, which is 1000 most frequently used words in the English language; the percentage of K2000 words, which is 1000-2000 of the most frequently used words in the English language; percentage of the AWL (Academic Word List) used in the text. Analyzemywriting is a website that helps analyze our texts. All we need to do is to copy paste our texts and it will help us calculate things such as Basic Text Statistics, Common Words and Phrases, Readability, Passive Voice and so on. Paperrater is a website that helps check users' grammars and spelling. It could also be used to detect plagiarism, which we all know is a growing c...
